To update the Eee PC’s BIOS is a pretty simple affair with a few catches:
- Download the latest BIOS from Asus’ Web site.
- Extract the BIOS ROM file.
- Rename the file to 1000HE.ROM
- Make sure the Eee PC A/C adapter is plugged in.
- Copy the 1000HE.ROM file to the root of a FAT32 USB flash drive.
- Power down the Eee PC.
- Power up the Eee PC.
- Press ALT + F2 key combination at the BIOS/Splash screen.
- The built-in flash utility will pick up the 1000HE.ROM file and flash it.
- Once finished, power down the Eee PC.
- Pull the USB flash drive.
- Power the unit up.
- Press F2 to enter setup (may need F1 after that).
- Verify that the BIOS version is the same as downloaded.
We are flashing the 1000HE because the newer BIOS firmware has added support for Windows 7 features.

Any way for a non-Windows user who has installed this to revert to 1002?
ReplyDeleteJason,
ReplyDeleteDownload the BIOS version you want and follow the blog post instructions to put it on a USB stick and flash the BIOS.
The keystrokes to update the BIOS are OS agnostic. Your USB flash drive does need to be FAT or FAT32 formatted though.

Yeah, I tried that... since that's how I updated to 1104. It says gives me an error saying the 1002 bios is too old. There is apparently an Asus Windows utility that has a checkbox that allows you to install old bios... but I don't have Windows.
