Outlook Error Message - Office Outlook does not recognize...

When we first setup Outlook on our systems, and if there are a number of Contact sub-folders that users have sorted their contacts into, the following error could happen if a crucial setup step is missed:

Check Names: Microsoft Office Outlook does not recognize "My Name".
The required step is to enable Outlook to search those sub-folders as part of the name look-up routine.

To do this:
  1. Right click on the Contact sub-folder and click on Properties.
  2. Click on the "Outlook Address Book" tab.
  3. Put a tick mark beside "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book".
  4. Apply
  5. OK
  6. Start a new e-mail.
  7. Click the TO button.
  8. Click the down arrow beside Global Address List in the "Show Names from the" list.
Your Contact sub-folder should now show up in the list below Outlook Address Book.

Any name now typed in the TO field in an e-mail that is contained in any of the Contacts sub-folders will now be found automatically.

  1. What do you do when the properties box is grey I can't send this email

I have scanned and scanned to find the problem, Why doesn't MS just highlight the problem email address to make this problem easier.

  2. Lisa,

Manually enter the Email@Address.com in the TO field in Outlook.

It will then appear as an option when typing.

I suggest making sure to set the default Address Book to Contacts right from get-go.
