We have a quick way to log off a Windows 2012 server or Windows 8 machine:
- Hit Start –> type: Logoff
- Right click on Logoff and Pin To Start
- ESC
- Start
- Move the Logoff tile to the Top Left of the Start menu.
Once the above process is complete to log off a server or desktop set up as above we hit Start then [Enter] and we are logged off.
To reboot or shut down the system we do the following:
- WIN+R
- shutdown –r –t 0 –f
- Reboot, time is 0 seconds, and force the reboot.
- shutdown –s –t 0 –f
- Shut down, time is 0 seconds, and force the reboot.
The Run command can otherwise be pinned to the Start menu using the above methodology.

Thanks for the tips!
Don't you just love the ease of which the most basic of tasks are done in Win8? [sarcasm!]
We take the good and the bad. :)
I don't mind the Modern UI setup. For now, it works where it needs to as a Start Menu.
Though, as a rule I've not used the Start Menu for much of anything since Windows 7 RTM.
Click Start --> Type what I need [Enter].
Thanks,
Philip
