Exchange 2013 Full Stop: MIME/Multipart/Mixed Message Scrambled Error

Wow, did we ever hit a full stop at 110MPH today. :P

Needless to say we have found out that Exchange 2013 does not like to receive PDF attachments from a copier/MFP/scanner.

image

The above snip is from an e-mail that shows the PDF attachment as a bunch of characters in the e-mail body itself that goes on and on and on.

As per the forum post apparently this will be fixed in the first Cumulative Rollup for Exchange 2013.

In the mean time we are scrambling to work on a workaround for those folks that are hitting this problem.

And, we may have found one:

The instructions are almost useless. Almost ...

image

We have an account set up, we went in as per the above instructions, and we set up the copier to use port 587 and encryption. Now on to get it going.

Copiers are never easy to work with. However, we will hopefully get them going this way until Microsoft releases the fix for this problem.

Windows Server 2012 RTM Bits On The Way Down

We have Open Value Agreements that cover most of our server setups as the Action Pack tends to be behind on product release timing.

So, it was mentioned by fellow MVP Tim Barrett that we should see the bits available in the Microsoft Volume Licensing portal and sure enough the download is there:

Neat!

We have a few projects that were pending RTM bits that can now move forward.

Windows 8 Client is Now Live on MSDN

We are in the process of downloading the RTM bits for Windows 8:

image

So far, the downloads for the RTM bits only show on the MSDN site with RC showing on TechNet.

There are a lot of servers working these downloads so the downloads may or may not be available in other geographical areas.

SBS v7 Beta Bits Expiring Today – No Date Reset Either

We managed to get our hands on an NDA copy of the SBS v7 bits a number of months back. We worked our way through the migration from SBS 2003 R2 Premium to our current SBS v7 configuration.

When we logged into the server a couple of days ago we were greeted with a message about the bits expiring.

We typed “WinVer [Enter]” from a command prompt and we saw:

image

The plan was to run the migration into an SBS 2011 RMT based VM over this last weekend but 12” of snow among other things kept us out of the shop and off the computers this last weekend.

It was mentioned that applying the release candidate of Service Pack 1 for Windows Server 2008 R2 may extend the deadline for these particular bits.

So, we ran the RC Service Pack:

image

Note that it looks as though the service pack has bits built in for SBS 2011.

The update took about 25 minutes on the server the bits are currently running on (1U, 8GB, Xeon X33xx, Intel RAID, 300GB 15K SAS x3 in RAID 5).

Once we were done though we were greeted with the following after a WinVer:

image

No change in expiry date.

That has meant a crash SBS v7 to SBS 2011 migration today all the while working on client needs.

We are following the SBS 2008 to SBS 2008 migration documentation for this process as it should be fairly similar though Exchange 2010 may add a few hiccups along the way.

SharePoint Designer 2010 x64 and x86 Downloads Are Available

The free SharePoint Designer 2010 RTM downloads for both CPU architectures are available on Microsoft’s download site:

As we have noted in a previous post, SharePoint Designer 2010 will only work with the current SharePoint 2010 versions (previous blog post).

We need to have SharePoint Designer 2007 installed in order to work with Windows SharePoint Services v3 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.

Installing Office 2010 RTM Requires Prerelease Uninstall First And 64bit From 32bit Rule

Just as has been the case in previous Release To Market products, Office 2010 will require that the Release Candidate or Beta versions of the product be uninstalled prior to running the install:

image

Setup Errors

Setup is unable to proceed due to the following error(s):

Microsoft Office 2010 does not support upgrading from a prerelease version of Microsoft Office 2010. You must first uninstall any prerelease versions of Microsoft Office 2010 products and associated technologies.

Correct the issue(s) listed above and re-run setup.

Fortunately we do not have a lot of workstations with the Release Candidate installed so the time required to “correct the issues” will not be too consuming.

One more thing to keep in mind too:

image

If there is a plan to use the 64bit version of Office 2010, then any installed 32bit of Office will need to be removed prior to the install too.

Windows 7 Professional x64 ISO – VM Install Has No Other Versions Offered

Here is Windows 7 Pro x64 DVD being used to install Windows 7 Professional as a Hyper-V guest:

Note the absence of the version picker we had with Windows Vista.

We have other versions of the OS DVD being downloaded, but it is looking like we are indeed in a situation where there is a DVD/ISO for each version of the Windows 7 OS.
