QuickBooks Support at 1-888-414-6596 Warning

We had a client call this evening that indicated that they were having QuickBooks problems. The user must have done a search and came up with:

The “technician” asked to call back. When they did they brought up the Task Manager and tried to scare the user into allowing them to initiate a remote session to fix virus infections (they pointed to regular Windows processes as being the infections).

Fortunately the user stopped them in their tracks by stating they had an IT department and would get in touch with them instead.

As always, be very cautious about search results.

It is a better idea to go to the product’s Web site and initiate support contact there.

Guilty of calling these bandits to resolve a setup issue I had with Quicken. Unfortunately, I did give them access via a remote session. As soon as the connection was allowed, they put me on hold. I waited about 45 seconds, my gut telling me there was something wrong. I unplugged the computer, rebooted, and as I googled their phone number to do some research on them "someone" tried to open my email account on my monitor, right in front on my eyes.

After changing my banking information and email passwords via my iPad, I called Geek Squad - the end result was that my Mac had been breached, possibly tested for collecting data at a later time (when I was away from it). Thank God I had the sense to get the computer checked within the hour.

DO NOT EVER GIVE ANYONE REMOTE ACCESS YOUR COMPUTER UNLESS YOU KNOW FOR SURE WHO THEY ARE!
