SBS 2008 – IE Update KB963027 Breaks Companyweb Access from the Server

We installed the latest round of updates on our SBS 2008 box that we use to test updates with.

This is what we were greeted with when we tried to open IE:

09-04-15 SBS 2008 - IE Update Breaks Companyweb on server - Companyweb

IE Authentication Request for Companyweb

The offending update was this one:

09-04-15 SBS 2008 - IE Update Breaks Companyweb on server

Microsoft KB 963027:  MS09-014: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer.

Once we uninstalled the update and rebooted the server, the Companyweb site came up just fine on the SBS 2008 box. Looks like we will be declining this one on our other SBS 2008 installs until things are ironed out and the update takes properly.

I didn't have that consequence to the patch on the SBS 2008 box installed with that one. Sounds like maybe you have a one-off oddity. It this really a pattern you have seen on multiple boxes or just the one?

I had the same exact problem on a Win 2k3 Server with IE7. Once I uninstalled the patch and the server rebooted, pass-thru authentication began working again

My SBS 2003 had same issue, but all other 2003 and 2008 boxes fine.

Maybe it's having a hissy because it's always the last to get patches.

You shouldn't need to uninstall the patch. The workaround section Method 1 or 2 (depends) in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/963027 and it should fix the issue.

Thanks.
